The COVID-19 outbreak in Latin America has strongly affected the journey and daily life of Venezuelan refugees and migrants in Peru and Colombia. Governments across the region have taken actions to reduce the spread of the virus, including sealing national borders. Aside from health issues, the outbreak has caused supply shortages and economic risks.
In Colombia, Heartland Alliance International (HAI) adapted its activities to deliver critical health and hygiene supplies to vulnerable individuals and families at heightened risk of COVID-19 infection. Working in Cali, Montería, and Tumaco, HAI has been able to reach Afro-Colombians experiencing displacement, individuals in rural areas, and migrant and refugee families from Venezuela arriving at the border.
