We Say Her Name: Breonna Taylor

Last night, many of us went to bed feeling extremely heavy, angry, and disheartened that proper and fair justice was not secured for Breonna Taylor. This is blatant injustice and disregard for Black Lives, and we join the millions who are calling it out as such.

It is exhausting, but let us be reminded that each time we stand together to abolish the deeply embedded, racially unjust systems of oppression within our society, we uphold and strengthen our commitment to establishing an anti-racist nation.

We must remain steadfast until there is fair treatment of all people regardless of the color of our skin. We must honor the legacies of those who have lost their lives due to racism, and the hatred that surrounds it. We will not give up. Heartland Alliance stands in solidarity. Black Lives Matter.

Let us care for each other as we grieve, and as we persevere. Let us also remember what the late congressman, statesman, and civil rights icon, John Lewis said about the pursuit of justice:

“Take a long, hard look down the road you will have to travel once you have made a commitment to work for change. Know that this transformation will not happen right away. Change often takes time. It rarely happens all at once.”
