The Kovler Center Family Program is dedicated to improving family wellbeing through relevant, practical, and emotional support. Program participants will receive psychosocial support services through the Marjorie Kovler Center’s high quality, trauma-informed, culturally and linguistically responsive treatment model.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who will participate? Caregivers who speak the same language (including extended family members in same household) in forced migrant families. Services available in English, Spanish, French, and Arabic. Others may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
What is the eligibility criteria? Caregiver/participant must be interested in participation in-group services.
What are the exclusion criteria? Active substance use prevents successful participation, active psychosis, severe mental illness, or other severe mental health symptoms that indicate a higher level of support than a group can provide.
When and where will the group(s) be implemented? Hybrid model of both in-person and HIPAA Compliant Zoom, model will be 8 weeks long. *Details regarding ability to meet in person or via Zoom will come from participants’ preferences, HA guidance, and local and state laws.
Who will facilitate? Guest speakers will facilitate informational workshops for engagement purposes, with the support of Family Program clinicians. Family program clinicians will facilitate groups according to their language abilities and the language of the group participants. Group participants will be invited to lead the recreational activities once trust is built in the group.
How many people will be in the groups? No more than 10 participants per each group) in order to maximize dialogue and peer support.
What is the structure of the groups? Closed, monolingual group; hybrid of in-person, outdoor activities and Zoom meetings. Possibility of separating by gender if helpful and of interest to the target population.
How long are the groups? 90 minutes
Will there be instruction on how to use Zoom? Yes! Group facilitators will teach participants the basics of navigating Zoom and other online tools relevant to the sessions.
What are some of the topics and themes covered in the group sessions?
- Share experiences of parenting—including joys and challenges
- Discover the inner strengths and resources within their families
- Learn skills to connect with your child, even if you are living apart
- Practice coping skills and problem solving to manage worry or feeling down
- Connect with other parents who have immigrated to the U.S. recently
