Pride 2020: Intersectionality, Equity, & Justice

“There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle, because we do not live single-issue lives.” – Audre Lorde.

Pride 2020 has been unique. As a global pandemic shut down annual Pride parades, marches and demonstrations in support of the Black Lives took their place. But at the heart of both the Pride and Black Lives Matter movements lies the same demand – equity and opportunity for ALL. And at the intersection of that fight is where Heartland Alliance stands. So this year, to honor both Pride and the current conversation about racial equity in America, we spoke with participants who wanted to share how their experiences as Black people within the LGBTQ+ community have formed their understanding of the world, and what this Pride month has meant to them.
