Black History in the Making

At Heartland Alliance, we know first-hand that Black history is being made every day in Chicago, the United States, and across the globe. And, some of those Courageous Champions making Black history include staff across our One Alliance. This past summer, when Heartland Alliance’s President, Evelyn Diaz, declared leadership’s commitment to become an explicitly antiracist organization, it set in motion the formation of the Anti-Racism Response Council (ARC). The purpose of the ARC is to guide the organization in advancing short and long-term priorities while committing to listen with intention, act with purpose, and learn to grow. Through the ARC, staff across our One Alliance are ensuring we make active, systemic, and conscious efforts to create an experience of equity for people of color.

This Black History Month, some of these Courageous Champions on the ARC shared what a truly equitable and free society looks, how they are working to achieve this vision, and where we should look to in our past to guide our future.
