As we celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, it is critical that we recognize the increase in anti-Asian hate incidents spurred by COVID-19 and the defamatory, hateful, racist perspectives shared by people in power. At Heartland Alliance we know that the fight to #StopAsianHate begins by acknowledging the historical and cultural erasure and systemic racism faced by many ethnic groups within the AAPI community.
But most importantly, it is critical that we recognize and celebrate the perspectives of our AAPI brothers and sisters in their lives today. This May, we opened the floor for our AAPI teammates at Heartland to share their thoughts about why it’s important to recognize the fight for justice across all BIPOC communities, and how to be the change we seek as we strive for equity and opportunity for ALL.
