The Kovler Center Child Trauma Program (KCCTP) is dedicated to providing high quality mental health treatment and services to immigrant and refugee youth who have experienced trauma in their home country, during the migration journey, or as part of the resettlement process.
Refugee and asylum seekers show tremendous resilience. However, they are often exposed to multiple types of traumatic events and stressors, which can have a negative impact on mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Children and adolescents are particularly vulnerable, especially if they are unaccompanied minors or experience family separation and/or detention.
KCCTP believes in ensuring that those affected by trauma and human rights violations have the opportunity to not only heal, but thrive.
KCCTP is a National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) Category III center. In order to raise the standard of care and increase access to services for migrant and refugee youth and families that have experienced trauma, KCCTP has:
- Provided community outreach, individual and group therapy, music expression groups, case management, advocacy, and other social services to youth and families from 20+ countries in 12+ languages
- Provided training to over 400 students, professionals, and community members
- Collaborated with the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), Refugee and Immigrant Community Services (RICS), Heartland Human Care Services (HHCS,) and 14+ other community organizations, schools, and coalitions
- Implemented a rigorous evaluation protocol
